Our Westcountry Tweed yarn is a woollen spun Aran with a beautiful provenance, made from a blend of British breed wools sourced with in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. This is by far our most local yarn, travelling less than 100 miles on its journey from sheep to skein.
The fibre comes directly to us from the farms, so we know the fleeces come from animals reared according to the strictest of welfare standards. In Westcountry Tweed the majority of the fibre comes from Mule sheep from a single farm in the Mendip Hills, Shetland ewes crossed with Teeswater or Romney rams. To this we add a small amount of Black Welsh Mountain wool from a single flock in Devon, to create the natural heathered grey base.
The fibre is blended with the colour nepps before spinning, we have then piled two dyed singles together with two nepp singles to create this striking marl. Westcountry Tweed reflects our tradition of linking our yarns with the landscape, with shades inspired by the oceans of the world.
