Pure Shetland wool can be the finest of British breed wools and we select the finest we can find, so our Shetland yarns are particularly soft.
Shetlands also come in many natural colours and we blend our Shetland knitting wool to produce six basic slightly heathered shades in 4-ply and Double Knitting weight yarns. They are normally in 50g balls, unless otherwise described on the Details tab on each individual product page.
The colours range from white, through creams, fawns to mid (moorit) and deep browns and also come in greys (katmogit pale to darker) and almost black.
For the 4-ply, to add to the interest of colour work, we also offer for sale a selection of gorgeous over-dyed shades of blue, plum, olive and turquoise for our customers to buy. The colours can be worked together to create traditional Fair-isle patterns or more modern but subtle styles.
For more detailed information on TENSION/GAUGE, please refer to the 4-ply and finer, 5-ply guernsey yarns, Double Knitting, Aran and Chunky pages which give data on needles and swatches.
