This Traditional Guernsey Pullover is a good introductory design, modelled on the Cornish designs with a textured yoke and plain body. It is work back to front to reduce the weight while knitting though experienced Guernsey knitters may prefer to work in the round and work the sleeves downwards.

The moss stitch panels are edged with vertical rows of knit stitches and there is a vertical row separating the half points from the adjoining cable panel. Pretty straightforward, just need to keep counting to 8! Techniques used include increases and decreases, picking up stitches for neck.

We recommend using our Pure Romney Guernsey – Blacker Yarns for this pattern.

Finished measurements
The straight shaping and sleeve setting mean there is positive ease of around 10cm / 4 inches. Historically, Guernseys would have been close fitting, so if you want a traditional tight fit make the size smaller than you would normally use, otherwise to wear over other things and for more of a tunic style make the size larger.

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
1 pair 2.75mm (12 UK, 2 US) needles
1 pair 3 mm (11 UK, 2 US)
2 stitch holders
darning needle for sewing up
GAUGE / TENSION
26 sts x 45 rows = 10cm / 4 inches x 10cm / 4 inches, using stocking stitch and 3 mm needles. Adjust needle size to give required tension.
