Baby Elephant Cardigan – Project Kit

The Baby Elephant Cardigan Project Kit includes the yoke cardigan featuring an elephant pattern designed by Kyoko Nakayoshi (Glove Genie) and Blacker Swan DK Pale Maiden for MC and Sundew for CC.

A sweet, whimsical top-down baby yoke cardigan featuring elephants. A perfect baby shower knitting project, this design is quick yet satisfying to knit for new arrivals. A kit is available from size 0-12 months. This cardigan is worked top-down in one piece. The yoke is shaped over four sets of increase rows, with the elephant motifs (Charts A, B and C) worked in Fair Isle technique. Short rows add height across the back so the cardigan sits comfortably. The sleeves stitches are then held on waste yarn while the body is worked flat to the hem. Sleeves are picked up and worked in the round afterwards.

Yarn

Blacker Swan DK; ( 100% British wool, 175 m, 190y / 50 g) Sample colourways: Pale Maiden MC, Sundew for CC.

Needles

3.5 mm (US 4 ) circular needles for ribbing. 4 mm (US 6) circular needles for the main section.  The video tutorial uses addiPremium Classic circular knitting needle 80 cm circular needles.

Other Accessories

4 stitch markers, 2 lengths of waste yarn for holding sleeves stitches, yarn needle for finishing and 5 buttons (1.3 cm dimeter)

Tension

22sts x 28 rows = 10 cm (4 in) in st on large needles, after blocking.

Your kit will arrive in one of our recycled box, and contain the pattern and wool for your size. Please note that knitting needles are not included in the kit, and can be purchased from many of our stockists’ shops.
