We launched the Coastal Cardigan in October, the first pattern for domestic machine knitting that we’ve introduced.
Katie, our design assistant intern, designed and created the cardigan on a domestic knitting machine which is simple to use, makes knitting a lot faster with the ability to add interesting patterns and techniques. The machine works by having a bed of 200 needles and a carriage that the yarn is put into. The carriage is then taken across the chosen number of needles knitting them accordingly, and you then carry on moving the carriage back and forth across the bed, resulting in the needles knitting a panel below. You can experiment with different patterns and tensions depending on the type of yarn used.Â
To create the Coastal Cardigan you will need access to a Single Bed Knitting Machine, Weights and Comb, and a Stitch Counter and the Project Kit which includes Katie’s pattern and Blacker Yarns Bam-boozle yarn.Â
