The garment is worked bottom up to make a front, a back and four sleeves which are then joined in the round to work the Fair Isle Yoke. Instructions are given for working back and forth, but can be worked entirely in the round if preferred.

The original sample was worked to 55cm / 22 inches from neck to hem, which is a short, neat length. If desired, the garment may be made longer or with a polo neckline, when more of the Main Colour yarn will be needed.
Pattern designed for:
Blacker Yarns woollen spun 3-ply or 4-ply yarns. The cover version was worked in 3-ply Cornish Garden yarn. A woollen spun yarn is traditional for Fair Isle work as the fluffiness makes it “sticky” when working with colours.
Blacker Cornish Garden 3-ply yarn: MC Hepworth natural 3 (4, 4, 5) 100g skeins, 1 100g skein each of Trebah blue, Tremenheere dark grey, Boconnoc deep pink, Cotehele golden orange and Heligan green
1 pair straight and 1 set circular 2.75 mm (UK 12, US 2) needles
1 pair straight and 1 set circular 3.25mm (UK 10, US 3) needles
Four stitch holders
Darning needle for sewing up
28 sts and 36 rows, rows = 10 cm / 4 inches, over stocking stitch using 3.25mm needles
