Limited Edition & Rare

Limited Edition & Rare

Here you will find yarns from rare, regional, special or unusual breeds, as named. Due to scarcity, these yarns come and go, though we aim to maintain an interesting selection of types and natural colours. The yarns are listed in alphabetical order of breed.

Many are classified as rare or endangered and listed by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust: when we can get the quality we need we make occasional limited editions, so grab them when you can!

All our yarns knit to a standard tension, so these limited edition breeds can be used for all our knitting patterns although the fabrics will differ for each.

Please refer to our 4-ply and finer, 5-ply guernsey yarns, Double Knitting, Aran and Chunky pages for information on tension and gauge.

  • Pure Castlemilk Moorit DK knitting yarn

    1 Review(s)

The very rare Castlemilk Moorit sheep was a breed specially created from crossing Manx Loagthan and Shetland sheep to make a small parkland sheep for the Castlemilk estate.  After almost dying out, the remainder of the flock was rescued by Joe Henson and revived at the Cotswold Farm Park.  Their wool is short and brown and makes an amazingly plushy and bulky brown yarn, ideal for outer wear and accessories.
