Ellie Stokeld has 300 sheep, the largest flock of pedigree Border Leicester sheep in the UK, which she started in 1996, originally as a hobby. Border Leicesters are one of the oldest British breeds, introduced into Northumberland in 1767 by the Culley brothers who were pupils of Robert Bakewell.  They have become relatively rare, due to the current focus on meat above fleece.

Nowadays, Ellie shows her sheep all across England, regularly winning both fleece and Wool on the Hoof championships.  The fleece prizes have led to demand from hand spinners and now Ellie is branching out into making and marketing her own farm assured yarns.  If you are especially interested in the breed you can also join the Doulton Flock group on Ravelry.

Her Doulton Flock Border Leicester is a lustrous and bouncy yarn, with a soft smooth handle, which takes dyes very well.  It is available in both DK and 4-ply in soothing dyed shades and one natural.

High quality yarn!Review by Sieglinde
Like the DK the 4ply is a wonderful yarn, too. It´s so soft and shiny. The colors are beautiful. I wish there would be a red or a green available. (Posted on 10/09/2015)
