Pattern Notes:

This fun hat is versatile, being reversible. It extra warm and cosy due to the double structure, in two designs and colourways, which also enables it to be combined with different outfits. We’ve used three shades of Jacob, (the piebald sheep) to knit our sample. While not difficult, the construction of this design uses a provisional cast-on and working in the round, so may be an ideal way to try out these techniques, along with jogless stripes, with a small project.

The provisional-cast-on-method demands a little bit more experience and we recommend using a “jogless-stripes” trick when knitting the stripes. The hat is started with the provisions cast-on from the top of the brim of the plain coloured side of the hat, then worked down this brim, and into the second brim, and then the whole of the striped second side of the hat is completed. The first side is them picked up from the top of the brim and worked to the crown to complete. This gives more space to work effectively. For an excellent explanation of jogless stripes, see Techknitter blog (a nameless but very good person!) at http://techknitting.blogspot.fr/2011/03/jogless-stripes-pretty-picture-version.htmlRemember to sew in all ends, before working second crown.
