A lovely slightly felted tweedy yarn! The fibre in this yarn is very special: the base is a Teeswater or Romney/Shetland cross wool, very soft and lustrous and from a single farm in the Mendip Hills of Somerset, combined with a little Black Welsh Mountain wool from a small flock in Devon. These wools are blended to a subtle heathered pale grey, scoured together and then "dyed in the wool" before carding. A scattering of coloured neps (tiny balls of wool dyed in many colours) is added to the carded fibre before spinning.
This edition comes in natural grey and five heathered shades of plum, turquoise, purple, olive and blue, to reflect the moorland landscapes of the Westcountry. The neps are selected for each shade so the effect is very subtle, just showing an occasional glint amongst the heather!
