Lighter evenings in the UK and the promise of warmer days ahead calls for a wardrobe change as we enter the summer months. We have a range of lightweight yarns in uplifting pastel and lighter shades to create a variety of knitwear and accessories to put a spring in your step.
Our collection of lace and 3-ply yarns includes Blue Faced Leicester and St Kilda, both light laceweight yarns. The BFL is made with 100% British wool from the Blue Faced Leicester sheep with its characteristic Roman nose and elegant distinction. Their fleece has softness as well creating a fine fibre which is hard wearing and durable. It is ideal for creating lace garments including shawls and cardigans to layer over day or evening wear and would complete a stylish summer wedding or party outfit. Our BFL colour card, available to purchase, provides you with the option to choose your preferred shade, whilst in the comfort of your own home or surroundings. BFL is considered a drapey yarn with semi lustre. The yardage and tension does vary with finer yarns due to the type of fibre.
St Kilda Laceweight is made with a blend of Boreray, Soay and Shetland wool, has a worsted finish and a fine handle. This delicate and textured yarn has lots of bounce and a real grip. It is named after the Scottish archipelago and World Heritage site on the outer edges of the Hebrides with some of the island’s native, oldest and rarest of all British sheep breeds.
The Lyonesse 4-ply consists of a blend of natural linen and soft white Falkland Island Corriedale/Merino wool which is worsted spun in our mill here in Cornwall. It has a lovely and soft smooth finish making it a light yarn with good stitch definition and a delight to work with.
The Sea Change Shawl – Project Kit includes the Sea Change Shawl pattern designed by Jacqueline Pirotta and 5 skeins of our St Kilda Isle of Dun pale undyed. The Sea Change Shawl pattern can work with different yarn weights and gauges too.
Our Cornish Garden 3-ply, launched originally as a birthday yarn in 2019, has a fine handle and is made with Merino, Romney, Shetland, BFL and noils, all sourced as locally as possible. Cornish Garden is available in a selection of vibrant and pleasing colours, each one named after a special garden in Cornwall including Heligan, Cotehele and Hepworth Natural. The Balvraid Hap – Project Kit contains two skeins of Cornish Garden 3-ply and a pattern created by Rita Taylor to make a beautiful, lightweight shawl with a stunning lace-inspired feature.
