Lace & 3-ply

Lace & 3-ply

Here you will find our finest yarns!  By specification, but also by fibre, since one requires the other ...

Our selection includes Blue-faced Leicester when available, our very special St. Kilda lace blend and occasionally other varieties, according to availability.  Some of our leaner 4-ply yarns are also suitable for lace work, and we have included the Mohair Blends and Lyonesse 4-ply here for this reason.

Please note that yardage and tension varies considerably with finer yarns, due both to the technical styles and also the type of fibre.

Please also see our advice page for further information on gauge/tension, needles and hook sizes, etc.

  • St. Kilda Laceweight

Our St. Kilda yarn is a unique and rare homage to the Scottish archipelago and World Heritage site on the outer edges of the Hebrides. The islands’ native Boreray and Soay sheep are two of the oldest and rarest of all British breeds, so there is only enough wool to make a limited amount each year.

These fibres are eked out by blending into a Shetland base to create a beautifully delicate and textured yarn with plenty of bounce. Our St. Kilda has a real grip, so it is exquisitely suited to lace knitting and textured shawls.

  • Pure Blue-faced Leicester Laceweight 2-ply Knitting Yarn

It is hard to improve on perfection, but worsted spinning Blue-Faced Leicester fibre must come close!

These elegant sheep are deservedly among the most popular of all British breeds due to their fine, soft, semi-lustrous fleece.

This special 50/50 blend of natural linen and soft white Falkland Island Corriedale/Merino wool is worsted spun for a soft, smooth finish.  The wool adds presence and memory to the yarn, while the linen contributes crispness and strength. The combination creates a light yarn with good stitch definition, which will retain its block wonderfully.
