Makepiece - from sheep to chic ...
Makepiece create beautiful designer knits in British wool. Beate Kubitz, co-owner, keeps a small flock of multi-coloured Shetland sheep in the hills above the Pennine town of Todmorden, Yorkshire in the North of England. These fleeces are spun by the Natural Fibre Company. Then Nicola uses the yarn - and other British wool - to design and make our amazing and unique designer knitwear.
Each season we produce fabulous collections of tops, dresses and cardigans, along with our classic pieces and intricate knitted wedding gowns. Our fine spun yarns and signature stitches make our knits three dimensional and dramatic - stunning pieces that are great to wear.
This collection of delicate and elegant pieces for The Natural Yarn Company is all in the natural colour of yarn from the brown, fawn and grey sheep: together they blend to our lovely colour name of Millstone Grit - echoing the colour of the stone of some some of the nearby hills which gained its name when it was used in the past to create hard millstones to grind corn.
We work to keep our environmental footprint as small as possible - sourcing locally and knitting on hand operated machinery. All our knits are hand washable and come with a length of yarn to ensure they can be repaired if it's ever necessary. At the end of their lives our knits are biodegradable.
