Description

This special new range of yarns is made from Lleyn or Charolais fleece from two Cornish farms, blended with 30% Blue-faced Leicester from a group of farms in North Wales. We start with the natural creamy white and then add heathered grey or fawn using mainly Hebridean or Manx fleece.

We then dye the three resulting natural shades in subtle colours, which will all tone with each other.

The lofty woollen spun yarns are designed to give you a classic, traditional knitting experience, in natural and attractive dyed colours, available in 4-ply, DK, Aran and Chunky weights. The added Blue-faced Leicester wool softens this yarn to make comfortable, light and warm garments or will felt well for accessories.

Our Classic British yarns are good for all types of projects and are priced to give value for money and provide an economic alternative to our rarer, special and luxury yarn ranges.

  1. Pretty Pink Classic DK

by Dawn on 19 Apr 2013

I gave up knitting years ago, tired of the synthetic-mix yarns in horrible colours but got bitten by the knitty bug again when I saw all the new techniques, great designs and gorgeous artisan yarns. I'm testing myself with Blacker Classic DK yarn because it is so affordable. I ordered the Pink and was happily surprised - on my screen it looks a sort of dusty pink but actually it's a lovely, gentle blossom pink, (flattering to older skin tones). Am going to knit the Cable Panel Pullover with this yarn. I thought in the ball it felt quite 'firm' but on knitting a swatch it feels softer and more 'flexible' when knitted up. It is great to have access to real British yarns from a real British company. Am now saving for some gorgeous yarn to knit Sue's Aran Sweater!
  2. lovely quality, great colour range

by Lou on 12 Dec 2012

Great stuff, thankyou, can't wait to get knitting it. Carefully packaged and quickly despatched, too. It's brilliant to be able to buy such beautiful wool that supports the British wool industry, especially at such a competitive price. It's also satisfying to be able to buy wool spun just 25 miles away from where it's going to be knitted. I'll be back! And I'll send other local knitters in your direction too.
